It is the chance to crown an almost perfect season: If Timo Rost's team wins against Viktoria Aschaffenburg on Saturday afternoon, the championship title in the regional league Bayern is no longer to be taken, and SpVgg Bayreuth rises to the third division. The old town has its fate in its own hands.
"There is a great anticipation and a little tension for me," admits coach Timo Rost before the last home game of the season. The old town is particularly strong in this round: you are unbeaten in foreign space - at least you lost four games at home. However, the league leader should not worry: at the last meeting in the Hans-Walter Wild Stadium in May 2021, the home team won 4-0.
And even if the Bayreuther should not do their own task, it can work with the championship tonight. Because the only remaining pursuer, the amateurs of FC Bayern Munich, has to go against Wacker Burghausen in the evening. If the little Bavarians don't win today, Bayreuth will be mastered by the couch. If Bavaria's victory and a loss of points against Aschaffenburg should not work, the old town can still create the promotion on its own with a win in Buchbach in a week.
Maderer in front of comeback
In terms of personnel, coaches Rost are available for the mission as a mission: Central defender Felix Weber returns to Rotsperre, striker Stefan Maderer is back in team training after three injury -related games. For Tobias Weber, Patrick Weimar and Chris Wolf's own plant, however, the game comes too early on Saturday. But they will all be in the stadium for the possible master celebration.
