Between November 3 and 5, the Digital and Democratic Innovation Canòdrom-Ateneo of Barcelona will host II Days in defense of digital rights in videogames designed to generate debate around the regulation of certain Practices in the industry and the protection of users. Organized by Argames in collaboration with the Ajuntament of Barcelona and the Generalitat, these days may be followed both in a face-to-face and virtual way through streaming. Among the speakers, who will teach various talks and participate in round tables, highlight Tom Apperley, a researcher specialized in the social and pedagogical influence of the video game and author of Gaming Rhythms: Play and Counterplay , Alberto Garzón, Minister of Consumer, Laia Serra, Member of The Defense Committee at the Actors College and responsible for the Jurist Women s Violence Commission, or the law-in law and author of ludum Lex: the secrets of the law applied to the development of video games, Darío López Rincón, among others.
Among the topics that will be addressed during the three days of duration are the extractivism of data, the use of questionable design patterns and that can encourage addiction or lack of transparency in relation to the operation of protected logarithms under intellectual property laws. From the social point of view, harassment will be treated towards players in multiplayer worlds, lack of diversity, precariousness and labor abuse in the industry, as well as the absence of unions and movements in favor of worker rights.
The videogame, despite being a cultural product, while a technological product of high impact, has traditionally been well-left of the struggles for digital rights and the mechanisms of promoting culture and public policies. Recently they start the first steps, such as the pretension of the government to regulate the booty boxes, public funding for the promotion of video game production ... but there is still a long way to go , we read in the press release.
