The US government has contacted the two-color basketball Olympic winner Brittney Griner in Moscow.
It was granted on Wednesday consular access to Griner, said the speaker of the US State Department, Ned Price. "The consular officer who visited Brittney Griner was able to make sure she is so well as it can expect it under these very difficult circumstances."
The US State Department had previously been pushing for consular care. Last week, it was still said that access to Griner was denied the US government. Griner sits after their arrest because of alleged drug ownership at the Moscow airport in custody. A court in the Moscow area in the city of Chimki had extended the arrest until 19 May.
As the news agency Interfax reported at the beginning of March citing Russian customs, so-called Vape cartridges and Hashish oil have been discovered in a control in the luggage of the American in February. It threatens the information five to ten years imprisonment. The 31-year-old US national player since 2015 also played in the Ummc Jekaterinburg team in the Urals. With the Russian top club, Griner won the Euroleague four times.
